Written Report:
Just as Aaron said in his observation from Thursday "aspect is everything". Today at Todd I found varying degrees of crust depending on how much sun the snow has had. South facing slopes had unpleasant breakable crust, North slopes had none at all and the east slopes I saw had a little hint of a melt-freeze crust. Like Phil, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the skiing with 10-15 cm of soft snow on those North faces. Throughout my tour I saw no signs of instability (Todd ridge and Soda Peak are almost completely below treeline and not a good indicator of potential wind slabs). It was overcast all afternoon and the wind was mostly light at the ridgetop although it was moderate from the South-East on Soda Peak (7030 ft.). I saw only limited blowing snow. It was -1 degrees C on Soda Peak at 1:15 pm.
