Snowpack Summary for 11/3/2017

Recent Activity:

With winter slowly taking over the higher elevations it is time to start thinking about avalanches and preparing for backcountry recreation. We have already seen some early season activity so maintain normal caution as you begin poking around. Early season conditions can be particularly finicky. Remember if you see any of these obvious clues (listed below) signaling dangerous snow conditions, avoid being on or under open slopes steeper than 30 degrees.

Recent avalanche activity
Cracking or collapsing snowpack
Heavy snowfall
High winds
Rapid increase in temperature

Our pro observers will begin issuing weekly observations and Snowpack Summaries in December.
