Toured from Santiam Sno Park up towards Booth and Martin Lakes, skiing a few eastern and northeastern aspects off the ridge towards the lakes.
We looked everywhere for wind slabs but found none. Ridge tops were wind affected but not very slabby. Below the ridges was fresh dense powder. Several inches stood atop the rain crust.
A pit dug at 5670’ on a NE aspect, about 50’ below the ridge top, revealed loose fresh snow of fist hardness atop a crust of pencil hardness. Crust broke on a weak layer below it at 20 taps in a compression test, Q3.
