Written Report:
The skiing conditions were quickly improving throughout the day. After 4 days of dust on crust skiing, we were staying mostly off the crust while skiing near and below tree-line as wind transported snow was starting to fill in N facing slopes by the afternoon.
Over the last 4 days, i monitored a weakness in the upper snowpack - yesterday (1/26), a shovel tilt test revealed a sudden planar failure approx 10 cm below the surface. I'll be watching to see how the new snow comes in and affects this weak layer.
I was also monitoring a weakness approx 25-30cm down below a thick crust - my column test revealed a moderate planar failure approx 25-30cm down below a thick crust. I'll also be monitoring this weakness.
