Written Report:
We toured up Tumalo Monday morning, strong winds near the summit. Several inches of light snow fell overnight, with wind depositing more in the bowl. We skied our first run down the skier’s left side of the bowl, light snow made for fun skiing. On the second lap we skied near the motorized boundary. The very top along the ridgeline had more wind deposited snow than lower in the bowl, with a steeper snow surface. Skiing over the convexity I triggered a wind slab. The crown was about 6” high and 20ft wide. The snow slid about 40ft into the bowl before coming to a stop.
