For anyone that may be heading south we found some interesting stuff at Thielsen today. At approximately 8300 feet on the southwest face there was significant depth hoar in the snowpack. The snowpack where we saw this was shallow(~12-18inches deep on avg) and the bottom six inches or so was very rotten, weak snow. We didn't hear any whumphing or see any shooting cracks but seeing these facets was enough to make us instantly turn around and head for less wind scoured slopes that had a deeper snowpack.
