Observation Date:

Zone or Region:
Central Cascades
Activity:
Skiing/Snowboarding
Location:
Inner cone
None reported
Dug a quick pit on a wind protected, northwest facing slope in the inner cone. Isolated a block for some rough tests and had a sudden collapse during isolation about 10” down. Shear quality high ~Q2+
Chose to stick to west facing trees for exit. Found similar storm slab, but not as deep. No whumphing or shooting cracks.
Ski quality was poor with soft, but breakable crust through all aspects. The rain won’t help the crust or stability. I’ll be hanging up the skis for at least a week.
