Observation Date:

Zone or Region:
Central Cascades
Activity:
Skiing/Snowboarding
Location:
Tumalo Butte
None reported
Started skinning up Tumalo from Dutchman a little after 6am. The snow was soft in the trees with lots of surface hoar evident. High SE winds and low visibility as we got closer to the top. Snow started to pick up around 6:45. We decided not to drop into the bowl due to low visibility and a cornice building toward the north rim of the bowl. Skiing was fun in the trees and the snow was pretty consistently soft minus a couple of random crusty areas.
