Zone or Region:
Central Cascades
Activity:
XC Skiing/Snowshoeing
Location:
Paulina Lake
None reported
Skinned up Trail 1 (NF-21) to Paulina Lake with my splitboard then rode down the Trail 11 (power line) trail. Snow on previously groomed terrain was 100% supportive, but resembled right-side up storm snow off the beaten path.
No obvious signs of instability, but I wasn't in steep terrain (so I couldn't make visual observations easily), and I didn't dig down to look at the layers.
Morning weather conditions were socked in at the snow park and cleared up around the Welcome Gate, but visibility degraded slightly later in the afternoon. The visibility improved riding down the power line trail, but riding/skiing was tedious on my splitboard because the trail hadn't been groomed recently and the grade was so low angle.
